Not Just Any House

On April 18, 1775 John Adams and John Hancock were at the home of Rev. Jonas Clarke, a Lexington pastor and militia leader. That same night Paul Revere, after receiving the lantern signal from the Old North Church, began his famous ride. He arrived at the pastors house to warn them of the approaching Redcoats. Hancock and Adams, two future founding fathers, asked Rev. Clarke if the men of the church were ready. Rev. Clarke responded,

“I have trained them for this very hour”.

A Moral Wrong Does Not Equal a Civil Right

The SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) legislative movement that is sweeping across America has produced a collision of two incompatible worldviews which will forever be irreconcilable. Biblical fidelity and sexual anarchy are simply contradictory to each other and no amount of understanding or negotiation in a legislative process will provide an acceptable compromise for either view. That is why I have often said, “There is no such thing as neutral”. When it comes to a prevailing ideology of a culture some group’s worldview ultimately dominates. This is why the SOGI debates are critical and foundational whether they be held locally, statewide, or nationally.

Valparaiso SOGI is on the Horizon

My residence is in Crown Point, Indiana. Not a few miles down the road is Valparaiso, Indiana, home of great basketball, great people, great churches, and a tyrannical agenda called SOGI. For those who do not know by now what the acronym stands for it simply means Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Translated, most SOGI legislation is about forcing bakers and florists to facilitate homosexual weddings and how confused people can choose their bathrooms. I know that is a raw way of presenting it, but after months of being called a hater, homophobe, bigoted, Neanderthal, I have decided that I will be more direct. I have also decided that I would do whatever I could to expose and defeat what I consider to be anti-Christian bigotry.

The Cross and a Crossroad

“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:19-20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I am drawn to the book of Colossians for a number of reasons. In all likelihood, Paul wrote several letters while incarcerated for the work of the Gospel including Colossians. You don’t find yourself in jail, as Paul did, unless somehow the message you are preaching collides with the governing powers. Just this simple contextual truth lays to rest the compartmentalists view that the Gospel has nothing to do with cultural engagement. But beyond that Paul clearly states, as he sits in this jail cell, that there are no limits to the work of the Cross and all that it entails. Whatever repercussion of sin there might be, the power of the Cross and Christ’s atoning blood is reaching out to reconcile back to God and His purposes. Paul never says…

That means we got Obamacare, we got Benghazi, we got a strained military, and Supreme Court justices we totally disagree with.

The concept of a scapegoat comes from the Bible. It is when a goat was sent into the wilderness after the Jewish chief priest had symbolically laid the sins of the people upon it (Lev. 16). The symbolism of this event was to illustrate to the people how they were no longer culpable for their sins. The goat now carried the weight of their sins. Interestingly, there is an ancient story in the Talmud (how true it may be I do not know) when the “sin-carrying” goat somehow found its way back to the camp. Obviously, no one wants a year’s worth of wickedness to find its way back into town. I can only imagine the consternation that sight must have been as their sins came back to visit them.
