Review of “Letter to the American Church”

I finished reading Eric Metaxas’ latest book, “Letter to the American Church”. It was, in general, a good and solid introduction on what happens when the Church corporately and pastors specifically disengage with civic governments. Since all governments are compromised at least in part by unregenerate people with darkened hearts, the participation of God’s ministers and people as the conscience of the state is critical. Metaxas uses as a springboard the biographies of Luther and Bonhoeffer to make the point that pastoral engagement is the key to righteous confrontation of civil authority.

Samson: Secrets to Destroying Your Life and Ministry (Book Review)

I am asked to review books on a fairly regular basis by a number of pastoral colleagues. I try to accommodate each request as I know the author is wanting some helpful feedback before it gets disseminated. Most of these reviews are usually prepublication in nature and are probably more concerned with content accuracy and overall effectiveness than perhaps a critique for potential readers. I enjoy reviewing and consider it an honor when I am asked. There are, on occasion, books which I feel deserve a public review and endorsement. One of those books is a recent release by a ministerial colleague, Pastor Chris McMichael, entitled, “Samson: Secrets to Destroying Your Life and Ministry”.

Power of the Creed (A Pre-release book review)

In recent months I have been asked to review an unusual number of soon to be released books. Most of these requests have come from friends who are aspiring to be authors. I am honored that they would think so much of my opinion. I know it’s not due to my grammatical acumen. I am also asked on occasion as to what books I am reading or have read that are impactful or thought provoking which I might recommend. Again, I am humbled to think my endorsement would be of that kind of value. All that being said, I thought I would use this blog site on occasion to review books I am currently reading. I usually have a stack on my desk which I am working through and I know if I were to take the time and write some reviews, my retention levels may actually skyrocket. So, to begin this new aspect of blog writing I want to start with an excellent book which I was asked to review in pre-publication form entitled, Power of the Creed.
